Laparoscopic Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection

Operation

Laparoscopic Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (RPLND) is the removal of lymph nodes to remove and stage testicular cancer. This minimally invasive procedure removes the lymph nodes that may become cancerous when you have cancer of the testis or renal cell cancer.

How is RPLND Performed?

Your surgeon will make several small incisions and insert the laparoscope and other tiny surgical instruments into the lower abdomen. This allows access to remove the appropriate lymph nodes by manipulating some of the internal organs.

Benefits of RPLND

The procedure is precise, with faster recovery and less pain than conventional surgery. Surgeons use well-established “templates” to help minimize any nerve damage that may result in ejaculatory dysfunction.

Recovery Time

Most patients are able to leave the hospital in 1 to 2 days and return to normal function in 3 to 4 weeks.
